چکیده

Background: 85% of women delivering vaginally experience perineal trauma, and almost two-thirds require tear repair [1]. Although chromic catgut is used as standard suture, newer materials like Polyglactin 910 question the best available properties [2]. Methods: This prospective, comparative study was conducted in Shri BM Patil Medical College, Karnataka from November 2019 to 2020. 200 divided randomly into Catgut (group 1) vs 2). Results obtained after evaluation at 24-48 hours, 10-14 days 6-8 weeks postnatally. Results: At 24 48hrs postpartum 18% had severe pain Group 1 whereas 6% 2. Similar trends observed subsequent follow ups. 54% felt tightness/Uncomfortable 83% no such complaints 2 (P<0.0001). Wound gaping 14% 4% 10 14 days. However none required resuturing. Residual sutures 6 (0% 13%, p value = 0.002). Conclusion: Fast-absorbing efficient lessening morbidity significant diminution terms pain, discomfort, analgesia, wound dehiscence, Hence contemplated place time honoured traditionally for repair.
